Everyone loves a nice KH for their bark color, foliage, and great ramification. The seed is just super expensive and not easy to germinate.  We grew this tree from seed here and cut it back every other year for the past 12 years. Last March we dug 2 and this is the only that lived. KH are notoriously hard to transfer from bed\/field to pot. Once in a pot they do great. But it’s easy to lose them in the transition. We’ll try more next spring too. \u003cbr\u003ethis tree has good potential and needs a gArden to be loved in. Loads of branches to choose from, wounds healing over well (they don’t usually heal the best) and a nice thick trunk. It’s been growing in a bed here 12 years and it was likely 3 years old at least when I planted it. So, count on at least 15 years old. Just have this one that we dug out this past spring. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003especial notes about this specific tree if they apply\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e-since this was popped in a pot last spring, ignore the stuff about the nursery pot and extending roots below. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e-this is a raised bed tree but we took the plastic pot off last March, did heavy root work, and popped it this plastic bonsai shape pot then, in March. It grew like a weed all season long, trimming it back at least 3 times. It’s a project, but it has a nice big nebari and a thick trunk. All the heavy root work was done, it’s got a lot of fine roots in there. \u003cbr\u003eplanted in pure pumice. A fun project. For the price, I think this is  steal. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is our first time offering our raised bed stock trees. These were dug March of 26’ and allowed to grow on their own for the growing season. We cut them back 3 times during the summer months as they put out tremendous growth during the warmer months of 2026. \u003cbr\u003eThese will be for sale from now (fall) until spring of 27’ which they will then be cut back hard and transferred to bonsai pots for training. Many of these trees show large roots that blew out through the container bottom and into the earth during their time in the beds. Those roots were cut and the trees recovered well over the past full growing season. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePlease read this in full and understand before purchase to avoid a return\/exchange. These trees are really rough stock, from top to bottom. Very healthy, but will need your patience to take them to the next level. Under the soil, the nebair’s could be much better or worse than what’s shown. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOur suggestion, upon arrival, would be to remove the plastic wrap around the roots\/pot and plant in a slightly larger container with bonsai soil around it.
