The Japanese Quince, also known as Toyo Nishiki is a beautiful flowering shrub that is popular among fruiting and flowering bonsai enthusiasts. Especially suited for multi-trunk designs, they have nice foliage and produce beautiful salmon-colored flowers. They tend to flower at random times throughout the year. Grown from seed at Kaede Bonsai-en, these trees are well established in 2 1/4" containers.

Latin Name: Chaenomeles japonica

Type: Deciduous broadleaf

Native to: Japan

Climate: Hardy in Zones 5-9, these are able to grow throughout most of the United States.

Care: Cut suckers back if you wish to maintain a single trunk. This species can be chopped low to stimulate new lower growth.

Size: 8-12"

Notes: This is a deciduous tree and therefore will not have foliage during the winter.
