These are a unique, unknown Variety of Gumi (Eleagnus, silver berry) that came from cuttings off an imported tree I bought about 5-6 years ago. When I bought the tree, it had no leaves (it has been defoliated for winter) so when spring came, to my surprise, the foliage was different. The leaves are not as thick. Softer with more of a waxy feel, and they grow much faster than standard Gumi.
In the later pictures, you can see the parent plant. The picture where it’s very bushy and overgrown, that’s from October 30th and the crazy amount of growth was from a mid summer cut back. I cut the parent back 3 times in one season. These are more cold tolerant, grow faster, show beautiful Corky bark as they age too. Also, more pliable for working on them and bending.
lots to love about these trees.
