The Chojubai is a variety that every bonsai hobbyist should own. The Chojubai has everything one could want in a variety - tiny leaves, beautiful silvery bark, and vibrant salmon flowers that appear throughout the year. Our Chojubai are propagated from imported bonsai to ensure premium genetic stock for our customers. Grown from cutting at Kaede Bonsai-en, these trees are well established in 2 1/4" containers.
Common Name(s): Chojubai, Chojubai Quince
Latin Name: Chaenomeles japonica 'Chojubai' or Chaenomeles 'Chojubai'
Type: Broad-leaf deciduous or semi-deciduous, Chojubai sporadically drop and re-grow their foliage and flower throughout the year. In a protected environment, they may retain foliage throughout the winter.
Native to: Japan
Climate: Hardy in Zones 5-9
Care: Chojubai can be a finicky variety to grow. If their conditions change (e.g. water increase/decrease, change in position leading to more or less light), they tend to completely drop their leaves. Do not worry if this happens - they will grow back. If you wish to keep your tree as a single trunk, make sure to cut back suckers as soon as they appear.
Size: 2.5-5” tall
Notes: This is a deciduous tree and therefore will not have foliage during the winter.
